Michele
Peresso Snr started his business mostly as a contractor
to the British Army in the late 30's, and was perhaps the first
Printing Press in Malta to export its printing services also to
the Australian Navy.
In 1939, Peresso Printing Press, through Mr
Michele Peresso Snr, secured the first Public contract
on book binding of all books and registers being used by the various
Government Departments. Later in the years Mr Michele
Peresso Snr became contractor to the Malta Government
for various contracts including those of the Public Lotto, Public
Transport, Customs Department, Agriculture Department, etc. The
50's showed clear signs of recovery and the press expanded further
by acquiring other high profiled companies including the first
Bank ever to operate locally in Malta, the Bank of Malta, followed
by the Barclays Bank and National Bank of Malta.
From the rather primitive manual pedaled machinery, Peresso
Printing Press was the first company in Malta to import
the first Heidelberg platen in 1959, and this was the start of
a radical change in production, as the following years meant a
complete innovation to fully automated machinery.
Mr Michele Peresso Snr retired in 1972, with
the great satisfaction of seeing his baby born Printing Press
in 1934, becoming one of the leading Printing Presses in Malta
during that time. |
As
always happens, a second generation was starting to slowly take
over the running of the Printing Press. Giorgio, his eldest son,
entered the Printing Press in 1962, followed by Michael, Harry
and Emanuel in later years. It is during these years that in line
with other Printing Presses in Malta, Peresso Press
was converted to offset technology.
Mr Emanuel Peresso, his youngest son, left the
printing press in 1975 to embark on a new exciting venture, as
an importer of Pharmaceutical preparations, which was the start
of a successful story. This led him to expand and diversify in
the Healthcare, Sports and Beauty preparations business, under
the name of Michele Peresso Limited, which is
today considered, as a dominant force in Healthcare and Sports,
employing some ninety personnel.
In year 2001, there was the need for Mr Emanuel Peresso to acquire
all the assets of Peresso Printing Press Limited,
which is now operating under the authority of Michele
Peresso Limited. Although the printing press business
in Malta is over saturated, the Company is still looking positively
to the future. |
